What is a Math Competition?

In competitions, you need to solve through a set of problems under a time pressure, generally ranking on accuracy!

Rounds can consist of individual, team, relay, power, and more.

The pressure and adrenaline rush, and the teamwork is what makes competitions fun.

And yes, everyone makes mistakes 😜.

Of course, if you score well, you or your team will take home a trophy!

Below, you will find information regarding both State and National Competitions.

State Competitions

Results from each of these competitions will be used to select 30 members for the Georgia Representative team for the ARML National Competition.

National Competitions

All of these national competitions are incredibly prominent and prestigious, due to being hosted by the MAA or a renowned university. Scoring or placing well in these competitions takes a lot of effort but is remarkably impressive.

Important: Notice that many of the college-hosted competitions are held in-person at the university. Even though this might seem like a hassle, it may certainly be worth it. For these, Gwinnett Math Club will serve as the organization collectively registering interested students. We will organize logistics regarding travel and finances when the applications open for these competition.

American Mathematics Competition (AMC)

The AMCs are the most famous and important math competitions for high school students. The AMC 10 and AMC 12 are high school math competitions with 25 questions in 75 minutes. AMC 10 is for 10th grade and below, while AMC 12 is for 12th grade and below. Each student make take up to 2 tests every year, with the A and B exams.

Scoring well on the AMCs will lead to the American Invitational Math Exam.

Students who do exceptionally well on the AIME (top ~270 students) will be invited to take the USA Mathematical Olympiad.
